Eagles suffer quick elimination
Despite jumping out to an early lead, the Eagles fell 12-3 against defending conference champion The Master’s University Mustangs and were eliminated from the Golden State Athletic Conference tournament.
Following senior left fielder Sam Thorne’s sacrifice fly in the first inning, the Eagles did not score again until junior first baseman Colton Worthington, who went 5-5 with two runs and 2 RBI, homered in the fifth.
While Biola’s offense fell silent, the Mustangs put up two runs in the first and five in the second including two home runs against junior starting pitcher Wyatt Haccou. They added another five runs to their lead between the fifth and seventh innings before Worthington singled in Biola’s final run of the tournament in the eighth.
Although their playoff run came up short, the Eagles finished the season 35-18 overall and 19-11 in conference. They rumbled back from an 0-5 conference start to eventually clinch the No. 2 seed in the tournament. They came short of the GSAC championship, but nevertheless put forth a great season.
The Eagles are still ranked No. 24 in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and now look to the selection show on Thursday, May 11 at 1 p.m. to determine their seeding in the tournament.
