With the illuminated Apples littered everywhere, not only on campus but all over the world, the loss of Steve Jobs, 56, visionary and mastermind behind the Apple empire, hits home for millions.

A statement released by Apple’s board of director’s expresses the impact Jobs had on them and the world.

“Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve,” the statement read.

Third-year Talbot student pursuing a master’s in Divinity, Ben Fowler, shared the sentiment.

“I think it’s the end of an era of innovation. He was a revolutionary,” Fowler said.

Students began linking to the Apple site on social media sites, drawing traffic to the extraordinarily simple but impactful layout which featured his portrait and a quote that reflects the products he created that have become a global icon.

U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) also released a statement appreciating the communication revolutionary who helped craft a household name out of Silicon Valley, Calif.

“Steve Jobs was a California icon who embodied Silicon Valley’s entrepreneurial spirit of creativity and optimism. He will be sorely missed,” Boxer said.

Fowler said that Jobs’ integral role in shaping the technology industry will be written in the pages of history.

“I can’t wait to see where he will rank in the realm of historical people,” Fowler said. “I think he will be remembered as a legend. He changed the world.”

The juggernaut company officially claimed more cash than the U.S. government by $2.4 billion earlier this year in June. Jobs boasted the creation of Pixar Animation Studios, which revolutionized computer animation.
