Crime Log: July 5 — Aug. 31

Trespassing — Track and Field

Reported July 5, 5:34 p.m.

A Campus Safety officer observed a group of individuals not affiliated with Biola on the soccer field. The officer made contact with the individuals, who left without further incident.

Petty Theft — Stewart Hall

Reported July 6, 4:09 p.m., occurred between 1 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.

A student reported their tablet stolen from a backpack in their dorm room. The student declined to report the incident to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department. Campus Safety decided to clear the investigation after reviewing video footage and finding no workable information.

Vandalism — Lot P

Reported July 9, 6:45 p.m., occurred prior to 6:45 p.m.

An officer reported some of the bars on the lot’s gate had been bent. The investigation is still ongoing.

Trespassing — Rose of Sharon Chapel

Reported July 9, 10:15 p.m.

A gate attendant reported a suspicious individual on campus. An officer followed up and determined from the individual's license plates that the person had previously been banned from campus. Officers escorted the individual from campus.

Disturbing the Peace — Sigma Hall

Reported July 10, 11:53 p.m.

An individual staying in Sigma Hall reported hearing loud music and dancing coming from one of the rooms. An officer made contact and told them to quiet down.

Trespassing — La Mirada Blvd.

Reported July 15, 5:26 p.m.

An officer observed three male individuals carrying bolt cutters coming onto campus through the creek at the La Mirada entrance. When the officer attempted to make contact with the individuals, they fled back into Creek Park. Officers checked the area but found no evidence of a crime.

Disturbing the Peace — Hart Hall

Reported July 25, 6:08 a.m.

A resident reported loud noise. When an officer arrived, the noise had stopped.

Disturbing the Peace — Hope Hall

Reported July 28, 10:57 p.m.

A guest reported loud music coming from the fields in south campus. An officer investigated the noise, but was unable to find its source.

Trespassing — Track and Field

Reported July 30, 8:02 p.m.

An officer observed a group of male individuals on the soccer field. The officer made contact and determined they had no affiliation with Biola. After informing them that the field is closed to the public, the individuals left without further incident.

Vandalism — Roma and Figueras

Reported Aug. 2, 9:06 p.m., occurred prior to Aug. 2, 7:10 p.m.

An officer reported damage on the off-campus side of the brick wall along Roma Dr. Officers photographed the damage and reported it to the LASD.

Trespassing — Metzger Hall

Reported Aug. 3, 12:35 p.m.

A staff member reported an individual acting strangely and attempting to speak to others about Christian campuses failing to follow God. Officers made contact with the individual in order to discern the person’s reason for being on campus, but the individual was noncooperative. Officers asked the individual to leave and banned the person from campus.

Petty Theft — Calpella St.

Reported Aug. 8, 8:05 p.m, occurred between July 7, 6:30 p.m. and Aug. 1, 6:30 p.m.

A resident of university-owned housing reported the catalytic converter of a vehicle parked there had been stolen. Campus Safety assisted the owner of the stolen item in reporting the incident to the LASD.

Trespassing — Caf

Reported Aug. 14, 11:38 a.m.

An officer observed a female previously banned from campus attempting to eat at the cafeteria. Officers made contact and escorted her off campus.

Burglary — Thompson Hall

Reported Aug. 14, 3:55 p.m., occurred between Aug. 12, 5:30 p.m. and Aug. 13, 5:00 p.m.

A student reported their locked bike stolen from the bike racks inside Thompson Hall. A report on the active investigation was filed with the LASD.

Vandalism — Rosecrans Apartments #3

Reported Aug. 20, 3:46 p.m., occurred prior to Aug. 20, 5:00 p.m.

An officer observed graffiti written on an air conditioning unit in black marker. Campus Safety reported the case to the LASD and to facilities management for cleanup.

Petty Theft — Pool Area

Reported Aug. 21, 3:46 p.m., occurred between Aug. 20, 4:00 p.m. and Aug. 21, 8:00 a.m.

Aquatic staff reported university property stolen from the pool area. Campus Safety is continuing the investigation.

Disturbing the Peace — Hope Hall

Reported Aug. 21, 11:59 p.m.

A guest reported four individuals playing basketball at the adjacent court. After an officer made contact with the group and informed them of the quiet hour policy, the individuals left without further incident.

Disturbing the Peace — Lot G

Reported Aug. 30, 8:23 p.m.

An off-campus neighbor reported loud music coming from Hart Hall and Stewart Hall during an all-hall. An officer made contact and requested that the music be turned down as a courtesy to the neighbors.
