Baseball drops opening game

Fresh off of their series against Vanguard University, the Eagles began the Golden State Athletic Conference tournament with a 16-3 loss to the Lions on Sunday, May 7.

After four scoreless innings, the Lions scored six runs off senior starting pitcher Jimmy Gallarda in the top of the fifth. Gallarda lasted one more before leaving the game with six runs allowed, four walks and three strikeouts.

The Lions added to their lead with 10 runs through the last three innings of the game before the Eagles jumped on the board. After senior left fielder Daniel Rasmussen coaxed a bases-loaded walk, sophomore centerfielder Jerron Largusa singled in two runs in the bottom of the ninth to finish off the scoring.

As a result, the Eagles are one loss away from falling out of the tournament and will face The Master’s University Mustangs in the elimination game at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 8. The Mustangs watched their early 3-0 lead disappear as the Menlo College Oaks came back to a 7-4 victory.
