Both the men and women of Biola’s track and field team travelled to Point Loma on March 18 to compete in the Ross & Sharon Irwin Collegiate Scoring Meet. While the women put on a strong showing with their fourth place finish, the men’s team succeeded despite a seventh place finish.

working diligently

“This meet allowed us to see things we can improve upon and things we are doing well,” said senior Dylan Fredenburg. “We will be working diligently to continue improving technique for the next few weeks and perform our best at GSAC.”

The rebound of senior Brandon Berz made for the feel-good story of the meet. He improved his time in the 1,500m from the March 10 Occidental Distance Carnival by 13 seconds and finished the event in 4:09.11.

Senior Dylan Fredenburg put up 38.36m in the discus and placed in the top 10 with a 47.31m toss in the javelin. By running the event in 3:59, sophomore Ryan Thompson finished seventh in the 1,500m.

While sophomore Christian Yaotani ran a personal-best 11.27 in the 100m dash for the men’s team, the women saw many of their athletes post personal bests in their respective events.

Personal bests reached

Senior Lyndee Dawson (4:34.40) and junior Stephanie Croy (4:46.22) both set personal bests in the women’s 1,500m. Croy went on to complete the 800m in 21.29, also a new personal best, and finished tenth overall.

Likewise, junior Christina Clark broke her previous high by reaching 10.73m in the triple jump. Although she did not score a personal best, freshman Paige LaBare finished second in the 100m and 200m events.

“We had quite a few personal records on both the men’s and women’s teams,” Dawson said. “It shows that all the hard work is paying off.”

The Eagles look to keep improving in their upcoming meet, the San Francisco State Distance Carnival, on Friday, March 31.
