The women’s tennis team has a long history of struggling with the fellow Golden State Athletic Conference members Westmont College Warriors. Biola’s loss to the Warriors on the road on Feb. 20 marked the 12th straight loss the Eagles suffered, leading all the way back to April 1, 2010 when Biola won 5-4.

Despite the long losing streak, this current 2-7 loss is the closest Biola has come to the Warriors since 2011 when they lost 4-5.

Biola’s first match point came from junior Kelsey Post in five singles. Post took her opponent to three sets to earn the win, with a match score of 6-1, 1-6, 6-4. Post holds the most individual wins for the Eagles this season with a current personal record of 3-4.

The Warriors were able to make quick work of the rest of the Eagles. Biola’s top three singles players all left the court without winning a game. Sophomore Brooke Sanford came the closest to her opponent in fourth singles, losing by a score of 2-6, 1-6.

Sanford was able to secure a match point for her team in doubles with the help of her partner freshman Katie Boesl. Together they beat their opponents at third doubles by a score of 8-5.  Sanford currently leads the team with a 4-2 doubles record.

The Eagles now hold a season record of 2-5 while being 1-2 in GSAC. Their next match is at Occidental College on Feb. 23. The Tigers are currently 1-4 on the season, including a 0-9 loss to Arizona Christian University.
