Crime Log: Feb. 1 – Feb. 16

Possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia make up this week’s crime log.

Fire: Mechanical Cause ― Grove Modulars

Feb. 1, 9:28 a.m.

Facilities management reported that an air conditioning unit malfunctioned and caught fire in Grove Modular 6C. The Los Angeles Fire Department inspected the building and said it was habitable. Facilities management is repairing the AC unit.

Petty Theft ― Blackstone Hall

Reported Feb. 2, occurred Jan. 26 and Jan. 27, 12:30 p.m.

A student reported personal items stolen from their dorm room. They did not file a report with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, but Campus Safety is continuing to investigate.

Drug Paraphernalia ― Sigma Hall

Reported Feb. 3, occurred Jan. 30, 12:22 a.m.

A Sigma resident reported smelling marijuana smoke. An officer investigated and found a student who had marijuana related items. The student was referred to Student Development.

Possession of Weapon ― Sigma Hall

Reported Feb. 3, occurred Jan. 30, 12:22 a.m.

When investigating a room for drug paraphernalia, an officer found a knife longer than 2 inches in a student’s room. The student has been referred to Student Development.

Hit and Run: Property Damage ― Lot C (South Campus)

Feb. 8, between 4:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

A student returned from class to find their vehicle had been damaged. The student chose not to file a report with the LASD. Campus Safety is continuing to investigate.

Disturbing the Peace ― Sigma Hall

Feb. 10, 1:17 a.m.

A student complained of noise in the room below them. An officer made contact and asked them to quiet down.

Petty Theft ― Horton Hall

Reported Feb. 10, occurred between Jan. 22, 10:00 p.m. and Jan. 23, 1:00 a.m.

A bike was stolen from the bike rack outside Horton. It had been locked to the rack. The student chose not to file a report with the LASD. Campus Safety is continuing to investigate.

Trespassing ― Tradewinds Apartments (14615 Rosecrans Ave.)

Feb. 11, 10:15 a.m.

An officer observed a person looking through the dumpsters. The officer approached them, told them they were on private property and asked them to leave.

Vandalism ― Off Campus

Feb. 12, 8:44 a.m.

A student reported graffiti inside the tunnel that connects Biola to Creek Park. Campus Safety was unable to clean the graffiti because Creek Park is not within Biola’s property.

Trespassing ― La Mirada Apartments

Feb. 13, 11:00 p.m.

A resident reported a suspicious individual in the dumpsters. When the officer showed up, the trespasser had left.
