The Biola men’s soccer team has held first place in their Golden State Athletic Conference division for two weeks since beating their rival the Vanguard University Lions. Since then they have kept up their dominance and maintained an undefeated conference record with their 2-1 victory over the Hope International University Royals.

The Eagles came into their match against the Royals with a 5-0-1 conference record. Hope International, on the other hand, struggled through their conference match ups and are seventh place in their division with a 2-3 record. With hopes of a title on the horizon, the Eagles battled through a rough match and came out on top.

A game that started by honoring the seniors on the team was won off the two goals made senior midfielder John Hanscom. In the 25th minute Hanscom scored from the right outside corner of the box. His goal gave the Eagles the lead until the second half when the Royals answered with a goal to tie the game. Hanscom came through again for his team with a goal in the 58th minute, winning the game for Biola.

Since starting their GSAC match ups the Eagles have been near perfect. But arguably one of their biggest challenges of the season will be in their next match against Vanguard. For both teams this match could be the deciding factor of who will ultimately take first place in their division. The Eagles will take on the Lions on Oct 21 at 4:00 p.m. in Costa Mesa.
