Core Task Force seeks feedback

Members of the Core Task Force, Arianna Molloy, assistant professor of communication studies, and Matthew Hooper, associate dean of students, asked senators to distribute a survey to their constituencies about student experiences in core classes. Feedback from students will be combined with research the task force has completed regarding other Christian and non-Christian universities to make improvements in general education and Bible classes. While changes may not be significant, they seek to make changes in core curriculum classes within the next few years to benefit student learning.

Senators and executive board members discussed ways to revise and improve their vision and mission statements to better represent the Student Government Association, especially after Associated Students split.

Proposals

Drew Mattocks, senior vice president, proposed for Constitutional Amendment C. This would add Article IX Section II.6.i and II.6.ii to the SGA constitution, which states that senators can only abstain from voting for constitutional amendments due to absence from a senate meeting, and that the abstention of senators who are not present would not discredit the unanimity of the vote.

Zane Henderson, Blackstone senator, proposed for $1,500 to donate to Giving Tuesday. This money would be matched by a donor, doubling the amount available for students, and would go directly to student scholarships.

These proposals will be voted on in next week’s senate meeting on Nov. 19, 2015.
