Crime Log: recent campus thefts remain under investigation

Campus Safety asks individuals to be attentive to personal belongings after unattended items were stolen.

Campus Safety sent an email to all students warning of six thefts that have recently occurred after items were left unattended around campus on Thursday, Aug. 27. Furthermore, incidents of sexual assault and attempted rape were among other crimes reported over summer 2015.

A petty theft was reported on Aug. 26 in Blackstone Hall that occurred between Aug. 17 and Aug. 25 when a bag was stolen out of an unattended dorm room. The incident remains under investigation as it was filed with the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department. Campus Safety is working with the LASD by reviewing video footage from the dorm.

A student reported petty theft on Aug. 25 of their cash and other items at Common Grounds on Aug. 24 between 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. The items were left unattended. The incident was filed with LASD and remains under investigation.

Student Development alerted Campus Safety of a sexual assault incident that occurred on campus in fall of 2014 but was reported on Aug. 24 of 2015 by the victim. Both departments are investigating the incident.

A petty theft was reported between 6:30 and 7:10 p.m. on Aug. 19 regarding an alumnus' cell phone that was left unattended in Chase Gym. Campus Safety is investigating the theft.

Two petty thefts were reported on Aug. 13 when two unlocked bikes belonging to separate students were stolen from the Rosecrans Apartments on Aug. 7 between 3 p.m. and 12 a.m. Campus Safety is still investigating the thefts.

A hit and run was reported on Aug. 14 when a contractor observed a parked vehicle hit by another vehicle in Lot J at 11:56 a.m. Campus Safety is investigating the incident and has contacted the victim, but has yet to receive a response.

A grand theft was reported on Aug. 10 that occurred between 11 p.m. Aug. 9 and 11 a.m. Aug. 10. at the Talbot House on 14204 Figueras where a computer and other items were stolen from a student’s unlocked vehicle. The incident was referred to the LASD and is currently under investigation.

A rape attempt at Hart Hall was reported by the victim on July 25. The incident occurred on July 24 at 12:15 a.m. and was reported to both the LASD and then Student Development. The attempt is still under investigation.
