The women’s soccer team saw their undefeated streak come to an end on Sept. 20 against the Cal State San Marcos Cougars. Biola now holds a 6-1 record after the 2-0 loss.

The Cougars came out firing in the first half with five attempted shots but could not follow through on any of them. The Eagles only shot once in the early minutes of the first half, the ball veering far right. Biola and Cal State ended the first half scoreless.

The Cougars found their opportunity to take the lead three minutes into the second half with a header off a corner kick. Minutes later Cal San Marcos attempted another goal to bring the Cougar’s lead to two, but senior goalkeeper Briana Williams made the save to keep the Eagles’ trailing behind by only one goal.

The second shot came in the 68th minute off of a penalty kick. Forward Paulina Good made both of the Cougars’ goals for her first two of the season. Biola’s only on target shot came within the last five minutes of the match from senior forward Shea Davis. The Cougars’ goalkeeper Amanda Sears saved the ball to seal Biola’s fate.

The Cougars are the most aggressive team that Biola has seen so far, ending the game with 13 fouls and two yellow cards. Biola could not capitalize on the free kicks and ended the match scoreless.

Biola has a chance to get back on track Tuesday when they start Golden State Athletic Conference play against Arizona Christian University. The last time the Eagles played the Firestorm they dominated in a 7-0 match.

The Eagles will play Arizona Christian on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Phoenix, Ariz.
