Women’s soccer fired three shots into the back of No.15 Concordia University’s net during the game on Nov. 4 to pull an upset and move on to the semifinal match against Vanguard University on Nov. 7.

Sophomore midfielder Jessie Burns picked up a loose ball in the 13th minute, sending it past Concordia goalkeeper Darby Clements to give the Eagles the lead. Biola outshot Concordia 8-3 but could not produce another goal and ended the first half leading 1-0.

Concordia outshot Biola 10-5 in the second half. However, only two of the shots were on target and senior goalkeeper Briana Williams deflected the other two shots to shut down Concordia.

Sophomore forward Taylor Venegas was the second player for Biola to make a goal in the 60th minute to push the Eagles’ lead to 2-0. Biola snuck one more goal past Concordia 10 minutes later making it a 3-0 game. The Eagles tightened their defense to completely shut down Concordia and keep them scoreless as the minutes dwindled. Biola defeated Concordia 3-0.

The Eagles were not the only team to pull out an upset on Nov. 4, as unranked San Diego Christian University defeated No. 12 the Master’s College. The win makes Biola the higher seed of the two teams and will face off against No. 11 Vanguard University instead of No. 6 Westmont on Nov. 7.
