The national and state results for the 2012 elections rolled in on Tuesday night. President Barack Obama and vice president Joe Biden were announced as the winners. In his victory speech, the president expressed his gratitude to his supporters and appreciation to all who participated in voting, no matter who they voted for.
"By itself, the recognition that we have common hopes and dreams won’t end all the gridlock or solve all our problems or substitute for the painstaking work of building consensus and making the difficult compromises needed to move this country forward," Obama said.
Meanwhile, in California, only propositions regarding temporary tax increase for education, human trafficking, the three strikes law, a business tax on energy funding and redistricting were passed. Californians also voted against repealing the death penalty, a tax for early childhood programs and labeling genetically engineered foods.
