Today, Monday, May 21 between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. a helicopter will be landing on McNally field by the softball field, according to a Campus Safety email sent out today.

“We wanted to get a helicopter up there to take both still photography of various angles of some of the newer buildings…and campus in general and also there’s an HD camera that’s secured to the bottom of the helicopter and so for the first time ever we are going to get some high definition video of campus,” said Brian Miller, senior director of University Communications & Marketing.

Miller explained that the footage and pictures would be used as a part of Biola’s new fundraising campaign. Miller described that the footage they will be capturing will be like that of the Disney California Adventure Park ride “Soarin’ Over California.”

“Biola is getting ready to embark on a comprehensive campaign to raise money for a new science building, some new facilities, scholarships, making Biola more affordable in general and a number of other campaign priorities,” Miller said.

It will film aerial shots and hover between 200 and 300 feet in order to get perspective shots and angles of buildings. The helicopter will land on McNally so that the videographer and photographer can trade places in the helicopter, according to Miller. Campus Safety will be posted at the field to ensure no one is harmed.

In the email, Campus Safety warned students to avoid McNally for the duration of the flyover.
