Sporadic power outages that have occurred throughout the day are speculated to be a problem based from Biola’s energy supplier, Edison.

The direct cause of the recurring outages is unknown to representatives of Edison, according to Brian Phillips, senior director of Operations in Facilities Services.

“We’re trying to find the cause of it so we called our Edison rep trying to find out whats is causing the outages but they don’t have answer for us yet,” Phillips said. “Our equipment has an under voltage warning, which tells us that Edison’s voltage is dropping to a point where they just shut down.”

Another indication that Phillips speculates it to be an Edison problem is power outage in the marquee in front of La Mirada City Hall across the street from Biola. Both facilities are powered by Edison and although Phillips acknowledged that this was not a definitive answer, it is another possible indication the problem is stemming from Edison.

“We’ve had problems with Edison off and on over the years,” Phillips said. “But its been better over the last year.”

Phillips is in communication with an Edison representative and is expecting to be informed of the cause of the outages by tomorrow.
