Biola Volleyball earns second win at NAIA playoffs
Biola takes 3-1 over Freed-Hardeman
NAIA No. 9 Biola volleyball won again in the pool play round of the NAIA playoffs, this time against No. 25 Freed-Hardeman University. The Eagles won 3-1 by taking the first two sets, then winning the fourth after playing to five ties late in the game.
Biola freshman Amy Weststeyn led all players with 15 kills while adding a pair of digs. Junior Christine Douglas tallied 14 kills and senior Sarah Schweiger added 12 kills and two digs.
Sophomore Emily Weingartner led all players with 19 digs and senior Christian Woodfruff added 14.
The Eagles, as a team, recorded 19 more kills than the Lions with 67 as well as eight more digs with 80.
Two early set wins and close fourth set win give Eagles edge over Lions
Biola won the first teo sets 25-21, and 25-17 before dropping the third 25-23. The in set four the two teams matched each other point for point late in the game, playing to ties of 23-23, 24-24, 25-25, 26-26 and 27-27. Finally back-to-back kills by junior Nicollete Mather ended the game at 29-27, giving Biola the 3-1 set-advantage.
Biola wraps up pool play tomorrow, Thursday, Dec. 1 against No. 4 Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at 1:15 p.m. in Sioux City, Iowa.
