To add to the confusion of the Easter bunny, chocolate candies and egg hunting we can now add the Jonas Brothers to the celebration of Easter.

Jonas Brothers at an Easter service? Screaming girls chatted about what they were going to do for Easter this year. They were going to see the Jonas brothers on Easter for free! What is our world coming to? Making Easter a concert in a huge stadium? You even had to acquire tickets to go to this special church service, which quickly ran out.

On Easter Sunday, Saddleback Church pastor Rick Warren had to compete for attention from the crowd with the superstars, and, really, even if Jesus himself made an appearance in the Anaheim stadium it probably wouldn’t compare with a “JoBros” sighting.

Instead of Jesus posters, Jonas Brothers posters were held up all over the stadium by loyal fans. In place of worship songs, the trio sang “Hold On,” “A Little Bit Longer” and “Gotta Find You,” a song written by Saddleback Church member Adam Watts.

The youngest Jonas Brother Nick did give his story of when he was diagnosed with diabetes at the end of the song “A Little Bit Longer.” It was heartfelt. But nothing about Jesus was mentioned.

One must wonder why exactly the Jonas Brothers were there. There was a sermon and other worship music but now it seems the church needed an advertisement other than Jesus dying for the world.

However, we must not forget that the Jonas Brothers helped attract nearly 30,000 attendees. Thousands of screaming girls got to hear the boys they adore singing at an Easter Sunday church service. All those fans who were just there for Jonas got Jesus as well.

Whether or not it was right to have the Jonas Brothers play at the Easter service, we must remember how many people were able to hear about Jesus through this church.

However helpful they were in bringing people, I still do not agree with what the Jonas Brothers contributed. A few worship songs would have helped or even if that wasn’t possible, Nick Jonas’s testimony could have at least brought up our savior since it was, in fact, Easter. I’m sure there are many restrictions on what these stars can sing or do but they have their freedom of speech and I would have expected these Christian men to stand up for their faith. They have been very open with the fact that they wear purity rings, but at an Easter service they stayed away from anything too bold.

The Jonas Brothers, who claim to be Christians, certainly did not stand up for their faith or hold up to my expectations for what they should have contributed to an Easter service.
