On Friday April 15, 2011, Biola University hosted the second annual Imagination Summit. CEOs and representatives of companies like Apple and Cisco discussed the idea of the global classroom and virtual college campus. This year’s theme, “Reach Beyond: Using Technology to connect and inspire,” focused on the new approach universities are taking to enhance the educational experience. The summit also highlighted resources to connect classrooms and teachers around the world. President of Biola University, Barry Corey, welcomed the audience via a YouTube video then proceeded to come from behind the screen to make a personal appearance before the crowd. Corey introduced Phil Cooke, writer and speaker, who was the moderator for the conference. The first portion of the conference was from 9:15 am-12:00 pm and included presenters from Cisco, Stanford and Apple. Lillie Turner, Director of Operations for Emerging Technology at Cisco discussed how 21st Century students are “evergreen students,” meaning they expect the universities to be up to date with technology and be able to provide the students with skills needed to compete in the world. Paul Kim, of Standford, presented the concept of fitting technology to the needs of individual cultures. Kim also discussed innovative ways to make technology work practically even in developing countries. Dan Cathy, CEO of Chick-fil-a wrapped up the first portion of the conference. After giving out his personal cell phone number to the audience, Cathy invited everyone to a complimentary Chick-fil-a lunch on Metzger lawn. _More information about this afternoon's sessions to follow._
