Budding trends

With the winter season done and gone, the same applies to your winter wardrobe. New seasons lead to new closet rotations. Ladies, say goodbye to your heavy coats, tall boots and scarves. Guys, we have had enough with the heavy flannels, trench coats and beanies. It is time to welcome in this year’s new spring trends.

For women, spring calls for lighter pieces, like boyfriend jeans, to welcome in the perfect weather. Although you will have many different kinds of washes to choose from, light wash denim is appropriate for the season. Thrift store visits will work for this look, because classic mom jeans can also double as boyfriend jeans. To achieve a casual street look, pair them with a white or grey top that flows or hangs. It is better to go simple with your tops — the “less is more” phrase rings true in this case.

Let this season consist of a more laid-back aesthetic to go with the flow of the breezy, sunny days. If your style is more business-casual, finish your outfit with a simple blazer to look more professional without looking overdressed. Alexander Wang, Armani, Altuzarra and Versace featured blazers in their spring 2015 collections, but you can find similar blazers at H&M, Macy’s and Nordstrom to achieve the same look.

Although spring is full of sunshine and new blooms, we cannot forget about those not-so-perfect spring days as much as we would like to. For gloomier days, the designer’s solution is a statement jacket to spice up your outfit. Thakoon, Public School, Tibi, Tracy Reese, Calvin Klein and Derek Lam were just a few of many designers that flaunted statement trench coats on their runways during New York Fashion Week. Whether it is a patterned jacket or a colored jacket that pops, they are an important addition to your wardrobe whenever you need to go from gloomy to lively. Recycled jackets from way-back-when, or even simple pieces from stores like Forever 21 and H&M, have potential to give you the look you want without going into debt. Just be sure to find a balance between your initial outfit and the jacket you choose.

As for men, as much as it pains me to say this, it is time to step away from black and darker tones. Neutral colors are more fit for the spring season. For brown and blue, Ralph Lauren’s spring 2015 models keep warm with brown leather jackets and blue blazers. Distressed leather is better if you want a more casual look. You can get these looks at H&M or local thrift stores. For shades of green, J. Crew and John Elliot featured green nylon jackets in their spring collections. Nylon is waterproof and perfect for spring showers so you do not destroy your leather jacket. The Dickies brand has a variety of nylon jackets that are both affordable and trendy. Argyleculture and Ovadia and Sons have simple button ups that would go great with these jackets.

If you want to be more daring, you can check out the button ups courtesy of Marc Jacob’s brilliance in his recent line. Retail stores like Urban Outfitters or H&M also offer a large selection of button ups. No matter where you get it from, make sure to always keep it buttoned all the way up to your neck since this is the most flattering way to wear these shirts. If buttoned shirts are not your thing, you can buy a bulk pack of white t-shirts at Wal-Mart or Target to wear with your jackets to keep it simple.

Lastly, for pants, take some tips from J. Crew’s NYFW runway and keep it dark and keep it cuffed. You can be bold and go skinny like En Noir or keep it at a slim or straight cut. Just do not make the mistake of getting a loose or boot cut, especially when cuffing the ends. Finding cheap jeans can be difficult, but Old Navy sometimes delivers, and if your masculinity is secure, you can try American Eagle.

This artical is very offensive. Saying that men that do shop at American Eagle aren't masculine, or need go have their masculinity secure is just ridiculous. There are are so many points in this article that just point out what looks bad and bashes that. What if someone doesn't wear their shirt button all the way, or loose fitted jeans. Are you really telling them that they look bad?
