L.A. Flower Market sells fresh flowers at wholesale price
The Los Angles Flower Market has been selling wholesale flowers for over ninety years. | Amber Amaya/THE CHIMES
Valentine’s Day is just days away, so if you’re searching for the perfect Valentine’s Day gift we suggest the Los Angeles Flower Market.
The L.A. Flower Market is located just 30 minutes away from Biola and is an amazing place to go any day but especially on Valentine’s Day. The market sells over 60 different kinds of flowers and plants. It’s not an exaggeration to say walking into the market is a bit overwhelming, in a good way, of course. There are even two sides of the market separated by Wall Street, which is where the market is located.
Buying flowers for cheap
The market is a great place to go even if you’re not on a date. Vendors sell the flowers at a wholesale price, meaning you’ll pay an extremely small amount for amazing fresh flowers. While 2 dozen roses might go for $60 to $70 at a grocery store or florist, you can get them for $18 at the market. Tulips and daisies usually go for around $8 a bouquet and large red and yellow sunflowers also sell for around $8-$10.
Besides ordinary flowers the market also sells larger plants and even trees. On our recent trip to the flower market many vendors were stocked with cherry blossoms and orchids. Depending on the season, the vendors will be stocked with more of a certain flower, but still, if you can’t find what you’re looking for at one vendor you can almost certainly find it at another.
Taking cash is a must
In order to have access to all the wholesale flowers, you need to pay a $2 admission on the weekdays or $1 on Saturdays; the admission sticker allows you access to both sides of the market. Also, be sure to take cash with you. The vendors prefer cash; only a few have card scanners and even then there is an extra charge. You should also take cash for parking. There is meter parking along the street but there are several parking garages around the market. Usually parking costs around $5 for the whole day.
We gave the Los Angeles Flower Market a 5 out of 5 stars because it’s a spectacular place to visit any day and with anyone. So if you still need an idea for Valentine’s Day or just want to spend a day in L.A. with friends make sure you stop by the market, it’s definitely a trip worth making.
