Thanksgiving movie guide

Well, here it is, the end of yet another Thanksgiving break. But have no fear! If you’re still thinking of ways to put off getting back to homework, head to the movie theater to check out some of the new releases! Here is a rundown of four top Thanksgiving week movies:

1. Heartwarming cartoon

Disney’s newest fairy tale film “Tangled” stars the voices of Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi as Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder. Released Wednesday, this film is a pleasant surprise. Not just good, but great. “Tangled” offers good characters, fresh story line, humor, and of course, romance (all PG of course.) “Tangled” is everything you are looking for in a film, unless you want an alien attack on New York....then go see something else.

2. Romantic drama

If you’re looking for something more edgy than Disney’s lovable cartoon, get tickets for “Love & Other Drugs.” This film, based on Jamie Reidy’s memoir “Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman,” is about a young man named Jamie (Jake Gyllenhaal) with the talent of seducing women who becomes a marketer for the drug Viagra. When he meets Maggie (Anne Hathaway), the two have instant chemistry. Though at first glance this film looks like a heart warmer, caution: there is extreme sexual content and nudity (rated R). So, I definitely can’t recommend this as a family film.

Rating: R

3. Period piece

Another film that opened this week is “The King’s Speech” which stars Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter as King George VI and Queen Elizabeth who seek the aid of a speech therapist (Geoffrey Rush) to help the king with a speech impediment. Though the plot sounds surface level, the film is surprisingly complex as it follows the king in his struggle to learn how to adequately lead his country. There is word that the cast gives a fantastic performance as well as a few Oscar nods.

Rating: R
Runtime: 118 min

4. Action flick

Finally, if you’re looking for something quick and action packed, look no further than “Faster” which stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Revenge, car chase scenes and murder mystery. What’s not to be thankful for?

Rating: R
Runtime: 95 min
